Tiki Resort Game Guide

Hey ya'll!
Check out this game guide for Tiki Resort!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tiki Resort is developed by the same company that released Tiki Farm on Facebook last year. Fans of the first Tiki styled game will immediately recognize the art style of Tiki Resort. This is a good thing as the charming graphics was one of the few reasons to play Tiki Farm. The first game tried to break into the very crowded farm game genre. Without doing anything particularly better than the competition Tiki Farm failed to make much impact.
.
The second offering Tiki Resort breaks with the farm genre and lets the gamer build up their own tropical paradise resort. While the graphics retain the distinct Island feel, the game experience is completely different. Tiki Resort is essentially a city simulation type game. This type of game is still an emerging trend on Facebook. Tiki Resort makes a strong enough showing that you can expect many similar games to appear in the next months.
.
At the beginning of the game you are taken to your tropical island paradise. Dominated by a huge volcano and an impressive beach front, it is ripe for you to build a vacation resort. The game starts with a short tutorial that has you placing the first attractions on your island. Already sporting an airstrip and a little dock your tourists can also enjoy some food at your newly build Island Grill or take in the sun on the beach.
.
Tourists arrive constantly at uneven intervals. Your job is to keep them entertained and spending their clams before they get bored and leave the island. Unfortunately the tressed out city slicker have incredible short attention spans. They start complaining as soon as they get of the plane. If there's not constant entertainment and attractions for them to go to they will leave the island as soon as they get there. The best way to get a tourist in a better mood is to give them a free cocktail. Tiki Resort in other words plays remarkably like real life.
.
Playing strategy
.
The key to long term success in the game is to keep your guests entertained and spending money. That means putting in a lot of reasons for them to stay. There are four different ways to improve a guests mood. Have them visit one of your buildings, when they go to the beach, when they see something they want to take a photo of, or the super effective free cocktails. You can't control when a tourist decides to go to the beach or go sight seeing. You can however set up your island to encourage as much shopping as possible. Of course, when all else fails there are always the free margaritas to keep them around and happy.
.
To keep your guests around as long as possible spread the access points to your island out as much as you can. Tourists will at first arrive at the dock or at the airstrip, make sure these two are as far apart as possible. The dock can not be moved, but your air field can. So your first task is to move the airfield up around the volcano as far from the beach as you can get. You will need the open space for your attractions soon enough anyway. The benefit of spreading out these access points is that your tourists will spend more time walking between them before they leave. This lets you see the paths they take and cleverly place attractions along the high traffic routes, and it gives you more time to identify annoyed guests who are in urgent need of free alcohol.
.
A truly annoyed guest will have a speech bubble over their head with a picture of a drink. This is the time to rush to their aid with free refreshments. This costs 2 shells, but it also earns you one experience point. Especially early in the game this is a huge advantage. The experience point is worth it, but the free drink also boosts the trouble guests mood to happy. This means they will not leave the island but look for an attraction instead. You will earn back the 2 shells you spend on the drink on their first visit to a building. Comping annoyed guests is in all ways a no-brainer.
.
Happy tourists are real pigs though and constantly throw banana peels and empty drink containers all over the island. This might sound less then ideal but every time you pick up trash you are awarded an experience points and less importantly 2 shells. You can also visit your friends islands and clean up the mess their tourists leaves for the same rewards. With the low experience points requirements on the lower levels, trash pickup can be a great help in leveling up.
.
Once a day you will find a treasure chest floating in the bay. The chest is filled with 200 shells and also gives you 2 experience points. The best part is that you can find a chest on your neighbors' islands too..
.
Building tips
.
Building attractions and tourists traps is essential to keep the growing number of guests happy. As a general rule, by one of each type of building you have available. There is a limit on how many buildings you can have on each level and you don't want to have to pass on the heliport because you have three fruit stands.
.
When placing a building make sure it's not blocking access to the beach and that it is easily accessible from the most common paths tourist take. Keep in mind that the buildings are accessed from the rare. You want your tourists to pass as close to the back right corner of the buildings as possible.
.
All buildings can be upgraded. You should not upgrade buildings while you are playing however. Instead focus on saving money for buying new buildings. The most important building is the heliport. It is relatively cheap but brings in another point of entry for tourists. After you place the heliport you will notice the number of tourists on your island going up. When placing the heliport place it as far away from the airstrip and dock as you can. The three access points should form a triangle with tourists walking between them. Place all your attractions inside this triangle and watch the profits skyrocket.
.
When you are done playing for the day it is time to upgrade as many buildings as you can afford. Upgrades takes anything from 10 minutes to several hours to complete and is best left for when you won't have a chance to play for some hours anyway. After upgrading collect all the shells you can from your buildings.
.
Once a building has made the maximum amount of shells it can hold it will not make you any more until you collect them. Collecting shells earns you 1 experience point for every 100 shells you've made. Along with building new attractions and updating them, collecting shells is the best way to earn experience points in Tiki Resort. As you upgrade buildings they can hold more shells and more tourists at the same time. As you progress through the levels try to keep your buildings upgraded to the highest possible levels. This is especially true for the airport, heliport and docks. Upgrades to these buildings brings in more and more tourists.
.
Gifts and decorations
.
Tiki Resort lets you send free gifts to your friends. You can send decorations, pets or even charms. It's not possible to harvest the fruit trees so they are strictly for looks. You can earn shells from the pets, but the payout is very little and generally not worth the effort. That leaves the charms as the best presents.
.
The best gifts are the money charms and the happiness charm. The money charms are applied to individual buildings and while they are in effect all tourists will use more shells when visiting that building. There is a small and a big money charm. As you'd expect you should always send, and ask for, the big money charm.
.
The happiness charm is a great charm. It is applied to the volcano and works on all the tourists on the island. They will be in a much better mood than their usual fickle selves. This might not seem like a big benefit, but happy tourists stay longer and spend more money. If a tourist enters a building while they are in the best possible mood, they will spend an extra shell. Being charmed with super happy guests will make a big difference in how many shells you earn and ultimately how fast you level up.
.
These tips will make playing Tiki Resort even more enjoyable and let you focus on laying out the perfect beach resort. Once you have established a strong money flow you can splurge on great looking decorations that can help your island really stand out.
